Why do you feel it’s important to support nomadic workers like us? Oh, and we have big, comfy chairs making it easier to sit here for a while. Ranging from downtempo and ambient music to mellow instrumental tunes (unless it is beautiful and sunny out, and in that case I can’t resist some house music). We also play music that I think is easy to listen to or to tune out. We are not a high turn over restaurant that needs you to vacate your table as soon as you finish your first cup of coffee. What makes Nectar Cafe a great spot to get work done? It’s all about the regulars, if they weren’t here I wouldn’t be either. I really enjoy my regulars and the diverse group of people that consider Nectar Cafe their coffee shop. What aspects of your business make you most happy?Īcceptance of people and meeting new people daily is an amazing part of my job. well that speaks for itself, it literally drives me through the days, weeks and the last couple years. The food we serve at Nectar has an emphasis on being local when possible, mostly organic and good for you. The music played at the shop is definitely not your average top 40 but an eclectic mix of great new and old tunes that in my opinion is an excellent back drop to getting work done. We change the art installation every month and a half with fresh local artwork. And I really try to encompass all of those things in my day to day at the shop. I am passionate about music, caffeine, food and art. We’d love to hear about the passions that drive you from day to day. We also cater to the vegan and gluten free community with our breakfast and lunch fare. We have been roasting coffee since 2010 and specializing in local ingredient smoothies and fresh pressed juices to order. In 2009 I was running a coffee booth at farmers market making espresso drinks and french press, in 2010 I opened a food cart in SE Portland called DaPressed and finally in May 2013 we opened Nectar Cafe in the Hollywood District. Another posted note says, “We will be holding onto the space and would like to focus on music, community events, and catering.” Sounds like some of the things that have piqued their interest include co-working, commissary/delivery kitchen, pop-ups, and private parties. It sounds like, though, that they are going to figure out how to be Nectar but in a different form. I loved their juices and especially their tofu bahn mi sandwich over the years. I enjoyed going there when I lived in the neighborhood, but I will admit: I did not stop by as much after I moved. We hope you’ll come by and send us-at least this version of us-off well. It was such a special time, and we couldn’t have done it without you. Thank you to each and every customer, staff member, artist, and vendor we have worked with over the last nine and a half years. So please, do not hesitate to reach out with questions, comments, or ideas to move forward. Over and over again, you were the “why” that kept us coming back despite every curveball this industry has thrown our way. You-the Nectar community-has always been the beating heart of this business. December 19th will be our last day of regular service, at which point we will take a pause and re-envision the business from the ground up. This quirky little cafe has always had its challenges, and as hard as we’ve pushed and tried to adapt, we just can’t keep doing things the way we’ve been doing them. They posted this note on their door, and also on social media: Shortly after Nectar Cafe’s expansion and remodel Back in fall of 2019 Nectar expanded next door-oh those heady pre-pandemic times-and it all seemed to be going well. The cafe had been there for almost a decade and provided tasty vegan food and drink, plus they would feature the work of local artists on the walls. They closed their doors on Decem(one day before they planned to). I was over in the Hollywood District yesterday and saw the signs up. In the “I’m Late to the Party” category, I only recently learned this weekend that Nectar Cafe has closed-at least the cafe as it has been.
